                                  Be a better you

     Have you ever looked adversity in the eye, and then smiled at?  Or have you ever felt a tremendous pain somewhere in your body and ignored it? As human beings, resources  you naturally possess  to develop your potentials or overcome a challenging situation are countless. The key question is whether  you accurately identify these innate powers and apply them to your own benefits. One of these overwhelming resources is called : resilience. What is it exactly and how should you eventually take advantage of it?

     Resilience is defined as the capacity to quickly recover from difficulties and the ability to bounce back. It is also defined as the ability to withstand and face hardships. In fact, a person who is resilient is flexible and has the capacity to adapt to changes.

     Furthermore, no matter how many times you fall, resilience helps you catch up the energy to stand and move on. Failure is part of the game , so you accept it while meditating on the lesson in order not to make the same mistakes over and over again. Keep the balance in everything to avoid putting your foot in ! Also it is worth being honest and showing great critical thinking skills, which will help you sort out entangled situations quickly.

     Life is not a straight line; it has peaks and valleys. Therefore, you should always expect hardships. Anyway, exert yourself to show resilience !

            We are all amazed at the beauty of a green field, a snake-shape river  gracefully flowing to its destination. We are all blown away by a picturesque sunset of the Caribbean islands. 

               No wonder, thousands of tourists  every year invade our facilities either for fun or for hibernation sake. Who doesn't      welcome  an fascinating excursion to enjoy the wonders of these exotic places around here, which can't be seen anywhere else? Nobody in his or her right mind will turn down an all-inclusive package with airfare to the Caribbean islands such as Cuba, Bahamas, Virgin islands, or Hispaniola.                             Sleeping in a bungalow, rafting the rivers,, ridding horses, visiting the colonial zones, going hiking, sunbathing by the white-sand beaches are among the the most stunning and relaxing activities down here, which no doubt will make them want to come back.  We all deserve a getaway alone or with family members  in such unforgettable lovely place in which our mind, body, and soul feel the breeze of freedom and happiness.

1.     I would like to highlight  for my dear and faithful followers, friends, and visitors the fundamental reasons which maintain Plurivision 2020 alive until today.  Before anything else, you should know , as a blog whose objective is the promotion of education among the young population of students around the world, Plurivision 2020 has always been aware of its relevant responsibility since the very beginning. And we endorse it every single day by taking action.
2.     Our staff, chiefly composed of young freelance writers , deserves more than the Pulitzer Award, Edgar Alan Poe Award, or The Pen/Hemingway Award. Thanks to their resilience, persistence, and endurance, our blog keeps shining the light of hope by posting articles that raise eyebrow and enlighten people captured in the darkness of ignorance.
3.     We have faced lots of challenges along the way; however, we have overcome them all due to our determination and flexibility. We are walking hand in hand with The Blogger Staff regarding changes and updates in the platform for the better, of course.
4.     Every cloud has a silver lining. Therefore, we are more than ready to take advantage of all opportunities in order to foster the value of Education, the master key which opens doors for the young people. Common & Useful Idioms

 1-  Whipping/Flogging a dead horse : This idiom refers to your trying so hard sorting out a problem, whose the outcome obviously remains the same. In fact it's a waste of time, money, and energy.
- Dude, if something is already broken, there is no point in complaining on and on ; you're just beating a dead horse. Come on !!!

   2- To cost an arm and a leg : to refer to something really expensive.
Be careful ! This electronic device cost me an arm and a leg.
   3- To see eye to eye : to agree on something. To find a common ground with someone.
Heather is atheist, but her mother believes in God. Obviously they don't see eye to eye when it comes to religion.
   4- To hear something straight from the horse's mouth : hear something from the authentic source.
 This isn't a rumor ; Mariano Is going to marry Synthia. I heard it from the horse's mouth. He's just told me that !
5- When pigs fly : to say that something will never happen in a lifetime.
-Do you think Kathy Perry will date me this weekend?
 -Oh yeah, when pigs fly, she will take you to the fanciest restaurant. jajaja jajaja !

False Cognates/ False friends

     By definition, cognates are words having the same languistic ancestral. Cognates can be very helpful while learning a foreign language.
All along the long but exciting process of your learning English as a second language, you will notice that emphasis will be put on acquiring a great deal of vocabulary, which Is really necessary for your progress. This also will help develop your speaking skills, enhance your pronunciation, and get in-depth conversational abilities.
Your teacher will use a great variety of technics or approaches to help you to successfully reach your goals.
Nevertheless, you should be aware of a tricky issue you will have to face on the way. we call it : " False cognate ".
False cognates are words in English which can be confused with another word in the native language of a learner due to  similarities in spelling. We also call some of them "false friends". Here Is a short list for Spanish-spoken learners :

* success/suceso
* actually/actualmente
* suburb/suburbio

  Everyday we express preferences in our conversations with family members, friends, and colleagues whether in good or bad terms which is normal since we are different from each other and have different tastes. It means that you may like someone more than someone else or that you like something more than something else. However, we should understand that there are two types of preferences :
  A - General Preferences


   B -  Specific Preferences
    
    A- Let us consider the first one. To express a general preference in English, we always use this very simple formula : 
     prefer something to something else / prefer someone to someone else


Ex : Linda prefers tea to coffee.
      : which color do you prefer, black or white? I prefer black to white.
      : I prefer lasagna to pizza.    
      :  Evelyn prefers Beyoncé to Lady GaGa.
  
We can also the following structure to express a general preference:
      prefer doing something to doing something else


 Ex :Virginia prefers working to sleeping.
       : Ranchesca prefers playing volleyball to playing baseball.
  We can also use the folling formula
        prefer to do something rather than do something else
  Ex : Cindy prefers to go to the movies rather than stay at home.
          
    B- Let us consider the second one now,specific preferences. To express a specific preference, the formula is as simple as AbC : 
           Would prefer + full infinitive......rather than + bare infinitive
Ex : Jeffrey would prefer to have a hamburger rather than have a hotdog.
      
     We can also use : Would rather+ bare infinitive........than +bare infinitive
Ex : I´d rather take a taxi rather than take a bus.
       : She´d rather go fishing rather with Pam than do her homework.
        : I´d rather teach true beginners than teach advanced students.

PHRASAL VERBS


1-   Go back on :   When you make a promise, but you do not keep it, you go back on your promise.
             ex : Jane promised to marry me two years ago, but she went back on it.


2-   Monkey around with : When you try to fix or repair mechanical devices even though you do not have permission or do not have the skill to do it properly.
                               ex : Please don´t even try to monkey around the laptop computer. You´d better take it to Global Tech right away. They´ll fix it in no time.


3-   Run over : When you drive over people or things with a car, truck or other vehicle causing damage, injury, or death.
                             ex : Ranchesca ran over Omar´s dog last night and killed it.


4- Run over     : When a liquid in a container fills the container and goes over the top.
                        ex : keep an eye on the bathtub so that it doesn´t run over.


5- Run over  : When you go beyond the limit.
                        ex : The meeting is 30 minutes. You shouldn´t run over !


6- Ring......up : when you want to buy something in a store, a cashier uses cash register to ring up what you buy in order to determine how much money you must pay.
                 ex : The cashier was talking on the phone while ringing the items up
.
7- Tear... down : When you deliberately demolish an old building and erect a new one.
                   ex : They´re tearing some old buildings down in the Colonial Zone this week.


 8- Fight back  : When you try hard to control emotions such as : tears, anxiety, and fear.
                   ex : Maria Natividad was about to cry, but she fought back When Isis came in.


 9- Fall over yourself / Fall all over yourself : When you try so hard to serve someone or make someone like you that appear ridiculous, foolish, or stupid.
                ex : Mayo was falling all over himself in the class last Friday trying to impress Jennifer.


10- Fall over : When people or things fall to the ground from an upright position.
                    ex : Andreina almost fell over this morning while mopping the floor.

1- To pay the price          : Suffer the consequences /  to experience the bad result of your actions.

                                   Perla stayed up late watching TV last night, and now she has to pay the price. 

 2- Suit yourself !             : Do what you want to.

                                  You don´t want to come with me. Alright darling. Suit yourself ! 

 3- A catch-22          :    You can´t solve another problem until you solve the first one.

                                   Without experience you can´t get a job, and you can´t get a job without               

                                   experience.It´s a catch-22. 

 4- Like a fish out of water : be akward because you are in a situation which you haven´t experienced   before.

                              The very first day of the English Immersion Program, I was like a fish out of water

 5- To bite the bullet   : To accept something unpleasant without complaining.

                              Canneleny can´t stand her boss,but she needs. She has to bite the bullet !

 6- On the verge of     : If you are on the verge of doing something, you are near to experience it.

                               Wascar is on the verge of falling in love in a big way with Zoe.

 7- Help yourself !       : To serve oneself food or drink

                                Feel free to help yourself if you want to get some pizza !

 8- Tricks of the trade  : Ways of achieving things / clever method to do a particular type of work.

                                We often improve the photos before publishing. It´s one of the tricks of the trade.

 9-  The tip of the iceberg : A small visible part of (a big problem)  

                               Thes small local protests are just the tip of the iceberg. 

10- To have bigger/other fish to fry : have something more important to do.

                               Sorry I couldn´t join the club last weekend. I had other fish to fry.

Phrasal verbs refer to two or more words including a verb, and adverb, or a preposition, which are used together as a verb and have a different meaning from the verb alone. According to Cambridge Advance Learner Dictionary, a phrasal verb consists of a verb in combination with a preposition , an adverb, or both in which the meaning is totally different from the meaning of its separate part.

 This section has been essentially designed to make things easier for the EFL or ESL students acquire the most common phrasal verbs that people basically use in their everyday English. Since our students always browse and spend a lot of time on the superhighway in quest of information. Plurivision2020 believes that here is the best place to post the phrasal verbs.

1- figure....... out : When you figure out something or someone, you finally understand why something or a person acts in a certain way. To succeed to understand someone or something. Find a way to solve a problem.

                         I can´t figure out why she wants to get divorced after 15 years of happiness.

2- doze off           :When you fall into a light sleep, you doze off.

                        The play was so boring last night that I couldn´t help dozing off.

  3- stay off           : When you stay off something , you just don´t sit or walk on it.

                          What can I do to get those dogs stay off my plants?

   4- pull through    : When you get over a bad case of the flu or any type of sickness, you pull ...

                                  through.

                           Candy is very sick, but I believe she will pull through.  

    5- fall for            : To feel a strong attraction to someone or something.

                         I just met Vanessa three days ago,and I fell for her in a big way.

    6- feel up to        :  To have the energy or confidence to do something.

                         I am exhausted ; I don´t feel up to playing basketball tonight.

    7- hear about       : To hear or learn information about someone/ something.

                         I heard about the accident on BBC last night. 

    

     8- take.....apart    :  To seperate something completely from the other parts.

                         The jeweller can take your watch apart and fix it in no time. So Relax !

      9- tear......down    :  When you tear down a building, so you just destroy it completely.

                         They just tore down a small house and then erected a 21-floor apartment downtown.

       10- burn out          :  When a light bulb stops producing light because it has reached the end of

                                         its useful life, it burns out.

                          My goodness! the light bulb of the kitchen burnt out two minutes ago.
