Common & Useful Idioms


 1-  Whipping/Flogging a dead horse : This idiom refers to your trying so hard sorting out a problem, whose the outcome obviously remains the same. In fact it's a waste of time, money, and energy.
- Dude, if something is already broken, there is no point in complaining on and on ; you're just beating a dead horse. Come on !!!

   2- To cost an arm and a leg : to refer to something really expensive.
Be careful ! This electronic device cost me an arm and a leg.
   3- To see eye to eye : to agree on something. To find a common ground with someone.
Heather is atheist, but her mother believes in God. Obviously they don't see eye to eye when it comes to religion.
   4- To hear something straight from the horse's mouth : hear something from the authentic source.
 This isn't a rumor ; Mariano Is going to marry Synthia. I heard it from the horse's mouth. He's just told me that !
5- When pigs fly : to say that something will never happen in a lifetime.
