Teachers, be forward-thinking !

                                            Teachers, be forward-thinking !

The ability to plan things or to think about the future in a positive way could be one of the best definitions to describe a forward-thinking person. It generally refers primarily to people with clear ideas of what the sociopolitical world, or the socioéconomic system should be in the future. As a matter of fact, forward-thinking people are those who constantly demonstrate creativity and visionary leadership. How can teachers prove themselves to be forward-thinking people? And what are some advantages to be a forward-thinking teacher?

First of all, I would like to share with all the teachers an unforgettable experience as a teacher of English. In 1997, USIS, which used to be the United States Information Service, initiated a series of valuable conferences for teachers of English as a Second Language( ESL). I remember, the first conference was an avant-garde one which showed forward-thinking of the staff of American Embassy at that time. The title was: " ENGLISH 2000 AND BEYOND. " In fact, by that time I was not completely aware of the implication of all that and my role in all that. I was young, pretty young ; however, there was something I could figure out, that conference represented a springboard for thinking about the role of teachers and the advantages of thinking beyond.

Although most of  the teachers who participated in that conference recognized at the end  that the role of teachers was the key to success, only few teachers proved themselves to be ready for the changes ; by constantly improving their ways of teaching, teachers will be more likely to  carry their tasks through and feel the satisfaction of doing something that is worthwhile in the classrooms.  We, teachers, are surrounded by inquisitive students asking for one hundred percent of your full potential. All these  thirsty students we have today in 2012, ask for more than a drop of water, they need  much more  to quench their desires.

Something must be done and actions must be taken to anticipate  the problems of these students who  use Black Berry, Android cellphones, laptop computer, and internet . Time has come to break free from the traditional teaching methods. A new generation of students  with the power of new technology that point to teachers the need to see beyond and to meet the need of the new generation of hitech-students. Teachers ought to plan the lessons carefully according to their needs. In addition, teachers should see these new gadgets as a great opportunity to promote learning by assigning students to investigate on internet. Most of the cellphones nowadays are equipped with English-English dictionaries. Let us  make hay while the sun shines !

All in all, the role of teachers nowadays requires more than before. Teachers should demonstrate a great deal of  dynamism, motivation,  inspiration, dedication and devotion. Teachers should also anticipate possible problems and come up with appropriate solutions. By taking into account all the suggestions above-mentioned and by applying them meticulously in the classrooms, teachers can prove themselves to be forward-thinking teachers.
